Sheik Ahmad Gumi, a controversial Islamic preacher, has been described by Nigeria’s leading Igbo group, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, as a security threat to the country’s existence.
The Igbo group, through its National Publicity Secretary, Alex Chiedozie Ogbonnia, claimed on Monday that Gumi’s views are completely unacceptable.
Remember that an Islamic preacher claimed that if the Federal Government proclaimed robbers to be terrorists, Nigeria would collapse.
Gumi said on his Facebook page that the actions of bandits in the Northwest, which have resulted in the deaths of innocent people, are comparable to terrorism.
However, he claims that if bandits are designated terrorists, direct international Jihadist movements would spring up, and many unemployed youths will find it appealing.
According to an Ohanaze Ndigbo representative, the federal government should recognize Gumi as a national security danger right away.
Gumi’s claims as an Islamic cleric, according to Ogbonnia, contradict most of his public utterances and his support for bandits.
People like Gumi, who advocates for the bandits, are more hazardous, according to Ogbonnia, and must be properly monitored.
He said: “In the first place, he professes Islam but Islam in itself is supposed to be a symbol of peace. As an Islamic cleric, his descriptions are sometimes at variance with the role he plays in society. So, his role is in contradiction to his faith as an Islamic cleric and such a person is more dangerous.”
