The arrest of a 50-year-old man named Simeon Onigbo, who is alleged to be the bomb-maker for the banned Indigenous People of Biafra, has been announced by the police (IPOB).
According to CSP Michael Abattam, the spokesperson for the Imo Police Command, he was detained on Thursday during a raid at Uba Umuaka in the Njaba Local Government Area of Imo State.
According to a police spokesperson, the suspect builds Improvised Explosive Devices (IEDs), which have been utilized in previous IPOB and Eastern Security Network attacks (ESN).
Several components used in the explosives’ manufacture were recovered from the scene and handed over to the Police Department’s Explosive Ordinance Disposal Unit (EOD) for additional analysis and possible explosion.
He said: “On searching the criminal hideouts items recovered include the following: One already prepared Improvised Explosive Devices, fifty-eight pieces of Cannon Steel Pipe, two chisels, one Monday Hammer one and a half bag of Potassium Nitrate, thirty pounds weight of Sulphur, Fourty Pounds Weight of dry Sand, 10 Pounds Weight of Red Sand, Thirty Pounds Weight of Gun Powder, Half Bag of Charcoal, Thirty Electronic Motorcycle Batteries and Seven Lengths of 8 millimeters Iron Rods.”
He went on to say that the Command has launched a complete investigation and that the suspect is cooperating with the authorities.
According to him: “investigation is ongoing, the suspect has made a useful statement and mentioned members of his gangs outside the State who patronize him. Operatives of the Command are not relenting and all efforts are on top gear to arrest the named suspects.”
