Shina Peller, a member of the House of Representatives who represents the Iseyin/Itesiwaju/Kajola/Iwajowa Federal Constituency, paid a visit to Alhaji Adebisi Olopoeyan, a senior leader of the New Nigeria People’s Party in Oyo State.
Peller had been critical of the APC’s conduct of the Oyo North Senatorial District primary election.
Senator Fatai Buhari was re-elected for the third time, but four competitors, including Peller, accused him of rigging the election.
The irate lawmaker’s visit to Olopoeyan, who recently defected from the Peoples Democratic Party, prompted defection speculations.
However, after the visit, Peller told some of his fans that his visit to Olopoeyan’s home was not politically driven.
He said it was a private visit, and that Olopoeyan and his late father, Professor Peller, had a good relationship, and that he and his father’s ally got along well.
Peller said, “I came to visit a political guru, a brother who was a close ally of my dad when he was alive.
“Alhaji Olopoeyan is a well-respected politician, but my coming here today is to pay homage to my dad’s friend who has also have been playing a brotherly role for me since.”
When asked if he would still run in the Oyo North Senatorial District election now that Senator Fatai Buhari had earned his party’s ticket, he answered, “I will definitely run in the Oyo North Senatorial District election in 2023.”
Olopoeyan further stated that the legislator’s visit to him had nothing to do with politics.
He told our telephone journalist that Peller paid him a visit, but they did not discuss politics or defection.
He said, ” Shina Peller visited me, it’s true but the visit has nothing to do with APC, PDP or NNPP. I was close to Professor Peller when he was alive and I have been close to Shina also.
“He just came to visit me. Bayo Adelabu visited me some months back. The APC chairman, Isaac Omodewu also came to my house then. I have also visited some of them. So, the visit is not political.”
