If the government of Benin Republic continues to imprison Sunday Adeyemo (popularly known as Sunday Igboho) illegally, the Agbekoya Farmers Society of Nigeria has announced that it will use supernatural power to release him.
The association’s President, Chief Kamorudeen Okikiola, claimed Igoho is not a criminal, but a freedom warrior who is being held unjustly due to the Nigerian government’s influence on the Benin Republic at a peaceful rally on “State of the Nation” in Osogbo, the capital of Osun State, on Thursday.
“Sunday Igboho is not a criminal and we know he is being held illegally, Benin Republic Government has stopped taking him to court, hence, we demand that he should be released through legal means, if they refuse, we will use our magical power to get him out of the prison.
I repeat, we Agbekoya, will get him out of Benin Republic detention and bring him back home”, he said.
On the socioeconomic condition in Nigeria, Okikiola called for a reversal of the 1960 constitution or a restructure of the country before the 2023 general elections, claiming that without such action, the country will not advance, regardless of who is elected president.
He lamented the recent surge in insecurity around the country, warning of the dire repercussions of politicians taking the people for granted.
“It is pertinent that we revert to the 1960 constitution and the different regions will have the privilege of enjoying good governance without having to struggle for Presidency.
And, if that proves impossible, we should restructure the government to ensure enough security for people and property.
“The FG may decide to hold the election without listening to the yearnings of Nigerians on restructuring, but we are of the view that whoever is elected would not achieve anything under the present constitutional arrangement.
“It is also pertinent to add that politicians should stop taking Nigerians for granted, because the consequences, with time, will be too enormous for the country to remain together again”, he said.
Traditional rulers should have a constitutional role, according to Okikiola, in order to reduce insecurity in rural areas.
Members of Agbekoya from across the Southwest states attended the rally, which featured banners reading “free Sunday Igboho,” “Southwest Governors should rise and save Yorubaland from invasion of bandits, kidnappers, ritualists, rapists, and others,” and “Bandits now have colony within our country,” among other things.
The demonstrators met in Olaitan and marched through Odi-Olowo, Asubiaro, Isale-Osun, and Idi-Omo to Oba Jimoh Olaonipekun’s palace in Ataoja, where they sent a letter to the royal father outlining their demands to the President.
