The sound of an explosive went off at the Medium Security Custodial Centre Oyo on Tuesday, sending residents of Oyo town into a panic.
They later learned that the detonation of the bomb, which was leftover material used by hoodlums that stormed the plant on Friday night, was carried out by the Police Bomb Disposal Unit.
Lanre Anjorin, the Public Relations Officer of the Nigerian Correctional Service, Oyo State Command, verified the bomb’s detonation to our correspondent.
The PRO said, “it is true but the bomb disposal unit of the.police were responsible for the controlled detonation of the material.
” Our officers discovered that there was an explosive planted outside the facility.”
Hundreds of convicts had escaped the jail after a devastating attack on the facility on Friday night, which claimed the lives of a soldier and an Amotekun corps member.
Many of those who had fled had returned, while others were later apprehended and returned to finish serving their sentences in the legitimate custody where they had been previously.
