Anyim Pius Anyim, former Senate President and 2023 presidential aspirant in the just concluded presidential primary election of the PDP has criticised what he called the “old primordial sentiments” displayed by some of the participants at the just concluded presidential primary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Mr Abubakar polled 371 votes to defeat his closest rival, Nyesom Wike, the governor of Rivers State who secured 237 votes in the keenly contested primary of the party on Saturday.

Anyim, in a statement, said he was shocked that delegates did not consider burning national issues and how to resolve them as a basis for voting their preferred candidate.

“I’m proud to have gone through the race to the end. However, I am shocked that consideration for voting the PDP presidential candidate was not based on burning national issues and how to resolve them, but still on the old primordial sentiments,” he said.

“It appears doubtful if our search for nationhood is yielding any results.”

He, however, commended the convention committee for doing “a great job”, and also appreciated his supporters for standing by him.

“I must sincerely commend the PDP 2022 Special Convention Committee for doing a great job,” he said.

“I deeply appreciate and thank all those who stood by me throughout this race, especially those that voted for me at the primary election. I want to assure all of you that we shall continue to stand tall until we birth the Nigeria of our collective dreams.”

The former Secretary to the Government of Federation, who garnered 14 votes had congratulated Atiku for winning the party’s presidential ticket.
