The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State’s Rasaq Salinsile faction has condemned the state government’s earlier claim that certain misguided cowards had invaded Osogbo with armed thugs with the intent to cause unrest.
The goal of the firefight in Osogbo, according to a statement signed by Abiodun Agboola, the faction’s Publicity Secretary, was to kill Interior Minister Rauf Aregbesola by attacking his convoy at Orisunmibare Market on Monday evening.
The Old Garage area of Osogbo was thrown into panic for around twenty minutes, according to the statement, as traders and road users rushed helter-skelter as a result of gunshots from security personnel and political thugs.
When the convoy was attacked, a group of security operatives from the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps, Nigeria Immigration Service, and Department of State Services, who were among Aregbesola’s convoy, stepped down from their vehicles and began shooting in an attempt to scare away the armed thugs, according to the faction.
It claimed that in order for Adegboyega Oyetola’s government to smear the minister’s good name, it swiftly published a report, leading people to believe that the minister had invaded Osogbo.
It demanded that the government present evidence of dead bodies that it said were killed as a result of the shooting, despite the fact that no one was injured during any of the minister’s appearances.
While describing the Osun State Government’s actions as irresponsible and a tactic to scare people away, it was highlighted that Osun, which was formerly ranked as Nigeria’s third safest state before Oyetola became Governor, has now become a hotbed of political violence and insecurity.
