Having realized or uncovered the grand plan to rock his presidential boat, Tinubu who was in Abekuota to meet the delegates, let the cat out from the basket. Tinubu who spoke in Yoruba language narrated how he helped Buhari, Osibanjo and governor Dapo Abiodun to ascend to power. He bragged that comes 2023, the power should not only return to south-west but also to him.

BREAKING: APC postpones National Convention indefinitely

Now, all Nigerians eyes are on APC convention to see who will fly its ticket. The opposition PDP last week conducted its convention in which former vice president, Atiku Abubakar, emerged winner having gotten 371 delegates to defeat his closer opponent, Nyeson wike who got 231. It is on record, the ruling APC has shifted its convention twice but later agreed to conduct it on 6th June, after the independent National Electorates(INEC), has graciously extended the period by one week. The screening committee led by former governor of Edo state, John Oyegun, has screened twenty-three candidates and disqualified thirteen according to the report it submitted to National chairman of the party, Abdullahi Adamu. However, before the screening began, president Muhammadu Buhari held a brief meeting with APC governors and solicited their reciprocity for his anointed candidate.

Though, the president’s did not mention the name of the candidate, the emergency of Atiku Abubakar from north has sent jittery into nerves of the ruling party. Weekly Trust, in its story carried out revealed that, villa cabals have sold the candidature of senate president, Ahmed Lawal, to Buhari.

">

The decision by some northern cabals to push for northern presidency is borne out of desire to checkmate PDP which jettison zoning and threw its contest open. But, for APC, power should move to the South-West, after president Buhari will have finished his two terms in office. No wonder, some northern governors refused to support northern presidency. Instead, they canvass for or root for the southern candidate. As the struggle for who will clinch the party’s ticket intestify, the APC governors are ready to settle for Vice president, Yemi Osibanjo.

There is no doubt, Osibanjo has the pedigree, intellect and capacity to succeed Buhari. When declared his intention, Osibanjo promised to continue with the Buhari’s policies and programs. The vice president who is part and parcel of the government will never falter in doing so, if opportune to become the president. Osibanjo presidency will meet stiff opposition from some northern elites. If we can recall, during Buhari’s medical vacation, Osibanjo who was acting president, wielded a big stick to some northern political officers. The Director state security service(DSS), Lawal Daura, was sacked by Osibanjo.

The cabals still nurse fears, if he becomes the president, nobody can control him. Osibanjo who is educative enough can exert influence and step on powerful toes. Besides, Osibanjo is being accused for dispensing political favours to only members of his church. Although, he has denied the allegations, he needs to do more to clear himself and convince nigerians.

The life time ambition of APC national leader, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, is facing a survival threat. Tinubu was the first candidate who met Buhari and informed him about his ambition. However, with the sudden changes of events, indications have since emerged, Tinubu is not longer the prepared candidate of APC or the villa cabals. In my article entitled” the huddles before Tinubu” published by many national dailies, I opined that, Tinubu’s challenges are many and coud be seen thus: old age, illness, the running mate conundrum and above all strong and formidable candidate from the opposition parties. Unknown to me, the huddles go beyond that. The cabals are hell-bent to scheme him out from the race. The body language of president Muhammadu Buhari suggests, the presidential candidate of APC will emerge through consensus.

The millions naira questions begging for answers are: What will be the fate of Tinubu if he fails to fly his party’s Ticket? Assuming APC sticks to northern candidate for fear of losing the 2023 election or opts for one of his loyalist, will he agree to rally support and work for his success? It is truth, Tinubu has paid the supreme price of defeating the PDP and installing Buhari’s government in 2015. His sacrifices for the succesful merging of legacies parties which led to the formation of APC and elections victory can not be dismissed with wave of hands. With Tinubu’s last dance, APC should expect two things from him. First, he may ditch the APC and pursue his ambition under another party.

Second, he will remain in the party and work against its success.
