Manchester United, a Premier League team, acknowledged on Sunday that they were aware of the charges leveled against striker Mason Greenwood.
The Old Trafford club made it plain that they had seen the “images and allegations” against their 20-year-old striker that had surfaced on social media.
Greenwood made news on Sunday morning after his girlfriend Harriet Robson accused him of abusing her and shared photos of her damaged body on social media.
The photographs have now been used as solid evidence against the United teenager, since it appears that he has a history of physically abusing his partner, with a voice recording of a different incident also being included in the release.
“We are aware of images and allegations circulating on social media,” the Red Devils said in a statement.
“We will not make any further comment until the facts have been established.
“Manchester United does not condone violence of any kind.”
Meanwhile, the Greater Manchester Police have said in a statement that enquiries were already on regarding the matter.
“Greater Manchester Police is aware of images and videos circulating on social media. Enquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances,” a statement from the police as quoted by Mike Keegan.
Greenwood is a Man United academy product who has 35 goals in 129 appearances for the club.
United’s next match will be in the FA Cup on February 4 against Middlesbrough.
