Usman Alkali, the Inspector-General of Police, has handed N9.3 million to the families of 13 police personnel who died in the line of duty in Anambra State.
Tochukwu Ikenga, the state’s police spokesperson, revealed this in a statement on Friday.
On behalf of the IGP, Echeng Echeng, Commissioner of Police in Anambra State, delivered the cheques to the families.
“The gesture is an initiative of the Inspector General of Police ‘family welfare insurance scheme’ aimed at giving succor to the family of police officers who died in active service.
“Also, the gesture is aimed at spurring officers to greatness while discharging their statutory duties with the assurance that their welfare is of paramount importance to the administration of the force,” he said.
Mr. Echeng commended the IGP for the officers’ safety, according to Mr. Ikenga.
The commissioner urged the recipients to put the money to good use by putting it in a productive company that will improve their families’ living situations.
According to the statement, the IGP made a similar gesture in the state three months ago.
