Before hanging up his boots in 2006, he later donned the jerseys of Sampdoria, Lazio, and Inter Milan. During that period, he won the Italian championship with both Lazio and Inter.

He still holds the record for the most free-kick goals scored in Italian football history with 28, and was widely regarded as one of the top dead-ball specialists in the sport’s history.

For a large portion of his time in Italy, Mihajlovic was an aggressive defender who frequently found himself in hot water.

His fury first surfaced during the 1998 FIFA World Cup in France, when he was photographed seemingly spitting in the face of Jens Jeremies of Germany after the two had insulted each other following a strong challenge from Mihajlovic.

In 2003, he was charged with spitting once more, this time at former Chelsea player Adrian Mutu, and received an eight-match UEFA suspension as a result. Years later, he would mentor Mutu at Fiorentina.

After ending his playing career, Mihajlovic transitioned into coaching and oversaw a number of teams in the Italian top division, including Bologna, Sampdoria, AC Milan, and Fiorentina.

The 63-cap former Yugoslavian international also served as Serbia’s interim manager from May 2012 and November 2013, during which time he also earned one international cap for Serbia.

After a dismal start to the season, Mihajlovic’s duties at Bologna were terminated in September.

He had disclosed in 2019 that he was undergoing treatment for leukaemia while continuing to work for the Italian soccer team.

AC Milan responded to the news by tweeting a tribute to their former manager.

“A new legend has been added about heaven. Sinisa, you will be sadly missed,” the team wrote.

Bologna replied, “Goodbye, Mister, you will forever be in our hearts,” while Fiorentina wished him to rest in peace.

A tribute was posted by a Serbian football fan who wrote: “My boyhood hero has passed away.

Sinisa Mihajlovic, rest in peace; we will never forget you.

Hey! This is kind of off topic but I need some help from an established blog. Is it very hard to set up your own blog? I’m not very techincal but I can figure things out pretty fast. I’m thinking about setting up my own but I’m not sure where to start. Do you have any tips or suggestions? Thanks
