Kingsley Coman and Aurelien Tchouameni, members of the French national team, are accused of being subjected to racial abuse, and the French Football Federation (FFF) has sworn to submit a complaint against those guilty.
The players, who are respectively of Guadeloupean and Cameroonian heritage, missed their penalties in the World Cup shootout, which Argentina won 4-2 on Sunday in Qatar.
The FFF released a statement in response to the BBC’s story that the two had been subjected to racial abuse.
“Following the World Cup final, several players from the French team were the subject of unacceptable racist and hateful remarks on social media.

“The FFF condemns them and will file a complaint against those responsible,” it added.
Bayern Munich, Coman’s team, has expressed its support for the winger after Emi Martinez of Argentina stopped his shot.
“FC Bayern strongly condemn the racist comments made towards Kingsley Coman,” the Bavarian Bundesliga club tweeted.
“The FC Bayern family is behind you, King. Racism has no place in sport or our society.”
Real Madrid player Tchouameni made an appeal for harmony on Twitter while also observing that it will “take time to digest the bitterness and resentment.”
“We tried everything. It didn’t work and I’m the first to be sorry. I’m convinced that the future of Les Bleus is bright, especially if we can count on you,” he added.
The AP quotes French gender equality minister Isabelle Rome as claiming that French player Kylian Mbappe, who scored a hat-trick in the championship game and departed Qatar with the Golden Boot for the tournament’s highest scorer, was also the target of racist taunts.
The racist taunts directed against the French athletes come as a direct result of those directed towards the black English trio of Marcus Rashford, Jadon Sancho, and Bukayo Saka following the Euro 2020 final the previous year.
At Wembley, England fell to Italy 3-2 in a penalty shootout after all three players missed their attempts.
The FFF was forced to denounce racist insults sent to Eduardo Camavinga, a teammate of Tchouameni’s from Madrid, on the eve of the Qatar 2022 World Cup after claims that he was to blame for an injury to Christopher Nkunku during training that destroyed his chances of competing at the event.
