The Senate passed the Civil Aviation Bill of 2022 on Tuesday, which aims to overturn the Civil Aviation Act of 2006.
The bill passed when the Senate Committee on Aviation’s report was approved in plenary.
Sen. Smart Adeyemi, Chairman of the Committee, presented the report and stated that the bill’s goal was to provide an effective legal and institutional framework for the regulation of civil aviation in Nigeria in accordance with the International Civil Aviation Organization’s standards and recommended practices (ICAO).
He went on to say that the Act was intended to set operating standards and responsibility divisions within the Nigerian civil aviation sector in order to increase aviation safety.
“It will ensure that Nigerian’s obligations under international aviation agreements are implemented and consolidated,” he said.
He stated that if the law is passed, it will apply to all those who possess licenses issued or validated by the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA).
