Due to Dani Alves’ accusation of sexual assault in Spain, the Mexican Liga MX team Pumas have cancelled his contract. Following accusations that he attacked a lady in a nightclub at the end of December, Alves appeared in court in Barcelona on Friday.
“Club Universidad [Pumas] makes the decision to terminate the contract with Dani Alves with just cause,” said club president Leopoldo Silva.
“This is an institution that promotes respect and the correct, dignified and professional behavior of its male and female players both on and off the field because they are role models in Mexico and throughout the world. We cannot permit any conduct that would damage our philosophy.”
Alves, 39, is being detained without bond in Spain, where he played a significant amount of his illustrious career with Barcelona. According to reports, the defender appeared before police on Friday to address the charges brought against him before being transferred to the Ciutat de la Justicia.

Although the police have not released any information about the case, a 23-year-old woman is believed to have accused Alves of groping and raping her on December 30 at Barcelona nightclub “Sutton.” The football player strenuously refutes the accusations levelled against him.
Alves has won more than 40 trophies at the senior level, making him one of football’s most decorated players ever. That includes a successful period at Barcelona between 2008 and 2016, during which he led the Catalans to six La Liga titles and three Champions League victories.
Alves has 126 caps for Brazil at the international level and last played for his nation in the Qatar 2022 World Cup.
