Nyesom Ezenwo Wike, the governor of Rivers State and a presidential candidate for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has revealed that if elected president of Nigeria, he has a clear plan to combat the activities of marauding bandits in Katsina State and other parts of the country.

The presidential candidate has also pledged to make substantial and immediate improvements in Nigerians’ lives, particularly by aggressively addressing insecurity and creating a conducive atmosphere for economic growth.

While speaking to Katsina State PDP leaders and delegates at the party’s office in Katsina, the state capital, Governor Wike hinted at his clear plan to combat insecurity.

The governor of Rivers State expressed sadness that President Muhammadu Buhari, a Katsina State native, had failed to put a stop to the activities of marauding bandits responsible for the indiscriminate destruction of lives and property in the state.

The governor promised the delegates that if he is elected president in 2023, he will quickly address the lingering issue of insecurity and execute economic programs that will improve Nigerians’ quality of life.

“You require somebody who will give you security in Katsina State. You require somebody who will bring projects to Katsina State. You require somebody who will appreciate the people of Katsina State.”

Governor Wike stated that the PDP needs a presidential candidate who is brave, firm, and capable of defeating the APC administration in the 2023 general election.

“APC will not give you power. We will take this power back from APC and give it back to PDP on behalf of Nigeria. I am that person who can withstand APC and win them. I am not going to run for election to bear a former presidential candidate. I came out because I know I would win the election.”

Governor Wike asked delegates not to vote for any candidate based on ethnic or religious feelings. He claimed that by voting for him, they will be making an informed decision based on his track record and dedication to the PDP.

However, the governor, who regarded himself as the best-prepared contender, stated that if another candidate emerges as the PDP’s presidential nominee, he will support that candidate in order to defeat the APC.

“If I don’t get the ticket, I will still work for anybody who emerges as the candidate of the party, because what we are talking about is how PDP will take back power, how we can solve the problem of insecurity, how we can solve the problem of hunger.

“You cannot go to farm again, your wives cannot go to farm. When they go to the farm they will be kidnapped, they will be raped. Can we continue to live in fear? Can we continue to leave this country with these people that have failed us?”

Former Katsina State Governor, His Excellency Ibrahim Shehu Shema, said in his speech that Governor Wike has proved during his statewide campaign that he has the ability to lead Nigeria and address challenges such as insecurity, poverty, hunger, illiteracy, and unemployment.

“Anybody who is not willing to take up this challenge and look at the populace and address what their true and genuine concerns are will only be interested in power for himself.

“I am glad your Excellency, we share the same vision. We are thinking in the same direction and we hope Nigeria after 2023 will be a better, more prosperous, more focused, and more and more leader of Africa and the black world.”

Salius Yusuf Majigiri, the chairman of the Katsina State PDP, said that party members are looking forward to seeing Governor Wike and his campaign staff and that they share his ambition to become President of Nigeria.
