Nigerian singer-songwriter Ahmed Ololade who goes by his mother’s name on stage, “Asake“, unleashed his most recent music video for the number-one hit song “Only Me” on Thursday, sparking a social media firestorm of indignation.
Under the direction of TG Omori, the images showed Asake serving communion in a setting that was evocative of a holy church, while dressed in priestly vestments.
His group of video vixens enhanced the show by dressing in a manner reminiscent of the sombre vestments used by altar servers, the obedient helpers who support priests during religious rituals.
The video has sparked a firestorm of criticism on social media, especially on platform X, where users have strongly accused Asake—a Muslim—of continuously demeaning Christianity.

Some people used a clip from his “Bandana” video—in which black goats break into a church—as additional proof to back up their statements.
“Asake consistently disregards Christianity in his music videos. It is insulting to dramatise the Eucharist while dressed in priestly costume for a music video that has nothing to do with Christianity.
“In his Bandana film, he shows strange individuals being topped by cloven tongues of fire while black goats storm into the chapel. I believe Asake to be a Muslim. Why does he not do more in this way to make his Muslim faith look bad?
“Why even listen to these musicians who openly mock Christianity, Christians?” The life coach Solomon Buchi wrote.
Another user wrote: “Christianity has lost it’s value untill even Muslims are condemning what Asake did in this video”.
