Governor Wike stated that he and others would continue to argue that the current structural imbalance within the party must be corrected despite the NEC’s decision.

The governor gave a speech at the 11th Hour homecoming and reception, which was hosted on Saturday at Isaac Boro Park in Port Harcourt for decampees from other political parties who had joined the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Rivers State.

“I was watching and listening, and they said there is one man they name Secondus,” he added. He was allegedly dancing in celebration of NEC giving their candidate a vote of confidence. He disregards the past. Ask him about the motion for a vote of confidence Aliyu Babangida, who was supported by Ndudi Elumelu, moved on behalf of the same NEC. They expressed their belief in you, Seconddus. What took place? You quit the company.

“We don’t fight and go back. If you like, you can have as many 20 votes of confidence, it’s not my business. My business is to make sure the right thing is done, and the right thing must be done. Whether today or tomorrow.”

He asserted that his administration has continued to oversee state government despite the intensifying political alignment and talks that are taking place.

The governor said that his commitment to give effective leadership up until the very end of his term was motivated by his love for the State.

“I’m not going to play games with my people’s interests. To me, Rivers State comes before any other individual or organisation.

“The eyes can now see what we have accomplished. We have never given up on government until now. Already, there are a great number of individuals gathering and taking everything they can. However, we remain dedicated to commissioning and launching projects.

“Because of the love we have for our people, we will continue to serve you till May 29, when Siminialaye Fubara will be sworn in as governor of Rivers State by the grace of God,” they said.

The PDP is the only political party that can win an election in Rivers State, thus Governor Wike praised the decampees for their bravery in choosing to re-join their political family.

“PDP is well-known throughout Rivers State. I can promise you that we will all cooperate with you. Nothing compares to someone who has recently returned and someone who has been there since. More is better, right?

In order to ensure that our gubernatorial candidate, National Assembly candidates, and House of Assembly candidates, at the very least from Rivers State, receive 100% of the vote, we must all work together. It is our main responsibility.

The governor characterised other political candidates’ efforts as merely attempts to get on the ballot because they had no chance of succeeding.

According to Governor Wike, the PDP‘s chances of victory depend on how bravely the party and his government have defended the interests of the State.

“Go home and weave your garment for the inauguration day if God grants you the PDP ticket in this State.

“Because for what reason will any Rivers citizen declare that he or she intends to cast a ballot for any other candidate in Rivers State? As a party, we have remained loyal to our constituents. We have stood up for our people as a party. As a party, we have never tolerated intimidation from any quarters, and the interest of Rivers State is what we are referring to.

“Remember, our property was with one state before I joined the team. With the help of our people’s prayers and support as I assumed office as governor, we reclaimed all of our property.

Governor Wike went on to say that a fresh approach would be used for the upcoming political campaign, replacing political “big men” with individuals who live among their people in different communities.

He said that during the general elections, those who live with their people would be used to represent their wards and units.

Desmond Akawor, the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) chairman for Rivers State, stated that the party was awarding Governor Wike with a certificate in recognition of his outstanding performance since he had beyond their expectations.
