Tapa and Ayete villages in Ibarapa, Oyo state, have raised concerns about a Fulani herdsmen attack.
According to Source, a letter headed “lnevitable Attack ls Looming” delivered to Oyo State Commissioner of Police, Ngozi Onadeko, and signed by one Adeagbo Taiwo, warned that herdsmen had vowed to attack villages within seven days beginning Saturday, October 30, 2021.
According to the letter, militants from Ogun State arrived on Friday, October 29 in groups of up to 70, each armed with an AK-47 rifle.
The gunmen allegedly set up camp in the Konko hamlet after a man named Lukumon Kongo attacked a Fulani in the Konko region, according to the report.
The letter read in part: “These Fulanis in question promised the people that they are coming to attack Ayete and Tapa within seven (7) days, as from yesterday.”
A voice message was also sent to the police commissioner, Oyo State government, Divisional Police Officers of Ayete and lgangan, Department of State Services (DSS), lbarapa North Local Government, and the chairman and his deputy, according to the letter.
The Fulanis warned residents of the Ibarapa North local government area to leave before the dry season began in October, according to the voice note.
Taiwo urged with security personnel to take the message seriously and assist the people in escaping the impending danger.
He said: “Please sir, don’t handle this report with left hands. Kindly safe life and property.”
