Villareal have won this year’s edition of the Europa League after beating Manchester United 11-10 in a penalty shootout to the lift Europe second most prestigious club trophy. The match, played at the Polsat Plus Arena Gdansk, in Poland on Wednesday night, had ended 1-1 after 120 minutes.
After both sides scored 10 penalties in succession, it was the turn of the goalkeepers and while Villareal’s Geronimo Rulli scored his side’s 11th penalty, David De Gea missed his kick to hand the trophy to the Yellow Submarines.
