The Vice-Chancellor of the University of Benin (UNIBEN), Lilian Salami has announced a reversal of the extra charges imposed on late payment of school fees by students.
Salami announced the reversal in a statement issued by the university’s Registrar, Ademola Bobola.
She also tendered an apology to the students on behalf of the school’s Senate and asked them to disregard any message about the closure of the university.
The statement read: “The Vice-Chancellor has reviewed the agitation by a section of the students’ body on Tuesday 14th September 2021.
“After due consultation, and in the overall interest of the general students’ body, the Vice-Chancellor has, on behalf of Senate, apologized to our dear Students.
“This is based on security reports from the Department of State Security (DSS) to avoid the students’ action being hijacked by hoodlums, and thereby prevent any form of breakdown of law and order within and outside the campuses of the University.
“Accordingly, Students are login into their Kofa page as the extra charges have been reversed.”
The students had on Tuesday blocked the Benin-Lagos Expressway and the Ekheuan Road during a protest over a N20,000 late registration fee imposed by UNIBEN.
