Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed, the Labour Party’s vice presidential nominee, claimed on Thursday that his party is not a direct beneficiary of the #EndSARS movement.
Speaking on Politics Today on Channels Television, Baba-Ahmed argued that a peaceful Nigeria is advantageous to the Labour Party. He explained that the LP would fix the errors of poor governance and implement beneficial improvements in the nation if elected in the general elections of 2023.
Additionally, Baba-Ahmed clarified some of the circumstances that preceded the incident on October 20, 2022, when some demonstrators were allegedly shot by security personnel.
The LP vice presidential candidate also outlined his party’s vision for Nigeria, which is important given that the general elections in 2023 are only four months away.

He claims that the party will handle corruption, address insecurity, fix the economy, and place a strong emphasis on young Nigerians’ education.
“While we are always on the side of good governance, we are against attrition, repression and all those,” he said.
“We are not direct beneficiaries of #EndSARS, we never wanted #EndSARS to happen. We never wanted any Nigerian whatsoever to be attacked. Accordingly, I cannot really say and be happy that we are direct beneficiaries.”
“There was abuse of human rights, procedure. If some people interpret it as massacre, then yes. These are well meaning Nigerians who brought themselves to a public area and were attacked by security forces that are meant to be protecting their lives and properties.
“The use of massacre is highly debatable but I can say for sure that there were abuses of procedure and civil rights violations,” he said.
