With only a few days till the general elections in 2023 in Nigeria, the crisis affecting the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has taken a new turn when Rivers State Governor Nyesom Wike informed the PDP National Chairman, Iyorchia Ayu, on Saturday that a battle line has just been drawn.

In response to the recent suspension of some party members, Wike made the submission. He accused the PDP leadership of punishing party members who were loyal to the G-5 Governors for refusing to accept the party’s presidential candidate for 2023, Atiku Abubakar, on certain terms.

The action is unlawful, total nonsense, according to the governor of Rivers State, and it will be contested in court.

Wike stated: “Your suspending people will not help you in any way. The battle line has been fully drawn. As I speak to you we will do everything legally possible to challenge any decision that we know is illegal.

“Don’t think you can threaten people by telling them you are suspended. Rubbish. It is completely rubbish. We are above that level. Don’t think you can threaten and intimidate anybody. We believe in the rule of law and we believe our party must respect their constitution.

“You are doing what will give you more headaches as far as this election is concerned. We are watching and we are waiting for you to announce more of my friends. When a man says you will not sleep, will he sleep too? Will Ayu sleep?”

Recalls that the National Working Committee (NWC) of the PDP on Friday in Abuja announced the suspension of some members, including the former governor of Enugu State, Senator Chimaroke Nnamani, Chris Ogbu, and Fayose’s son. The statement was signed by the PDP National Publicity Secretary, Hon. Debo Ologunagba.

The suspension also affected Akerele Oluyinka from Ekiti North I, Fayose Oluwajomiloju John (Ekiti Central I), Emiola Adenike Jennifer from Ekiti South II, Ajayi Babatunde Samuel from Ekiti North II, Olayinka James Olalere from Ekiti Central, and Ajijola Lateef Oladimeji from Ekiti Central.

According to the PDP, they were suspended because of anti-party behaviour.
