To aid security services in battling instability in the federal capital, the Federal Executive Council (FEC) on Wednesday approved spending N2.6 billion on the procurement of operating vehicles and related security tools.
At the conclusion of the FEC meeting, the FCT Minister, Muhammad Musa Bello, said that two contracts worth N 2,682,248,378 had been approved.
The Minister’s Chief News Secretary, Anthony Ogunleye, made this information public in a press release.
According to the minister, Messrs Coscharis Motors Ltd. was given the first contract for the purchase of 60 Ford Ranger 44 cars with security communication devices and three years of post-sale service for the price of N1,835,108,613.95k.
The second contract, for N847,139,764.57, was to Messrs E&S Technology Ltd and was for the acquisition of different security devices and accessories to support security services in the FCT.
The Minister expressed confidence that the gadgets and vehicles will help the security authorities in their efforts to reduce security concerns in the federal capital.
As seen by InsightnaijaTV, the contracts were awarded in the wake of recent terrorist attacks in the FCT, including the jailbreak at Kuje during which more than 60 terrorists and other prisoners were released.
The National Security Adviser, Babagana Mogonu, claimed that during the subsequent attack at the Bwari Area Council, “the terrorists decimated the brigade of guards.”
The FCT minister appealed to residents to continue to support the security agencies in the fight against crime and criminality in the nation’s capital.
