InsightnaijaTV reports that former President Olusegun Obasanjo hosted Sokoto State Governor Aminu Tambuwal on Sunday at the Penthouse of the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library (OOPL).

Although complete details of the meeting have not yet been made public, reports claim that the governor of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) met with Obasanjo to address national issues.

In a succinct statement, Kehinde Akinyemi, Special Assistant to Obasanjo on Media, revealed that Tambuwal and a few of his top aides arrived at the OOPL at at 1:30 PM today.

According to reports, the governor of Sokoto State and the former president began their meeting right away, and at around 2:40 p.m., they both concluded their brief discussion of national matters.

Tambuwal was said to have enjoyed the launch with his entourage and headed for the mosque inside OOPL to observe salat (prayers) before leaving the complex.

Aminu Wali, a senior statesman and former minister of foreign affairs, has refuted accusations that Governor Aminu Tambuwal of Sokoto State deserted his friend, Governor Nyesom Wike.

According to InsightnaijaTV, Tambuwal and Wike had a falling out when the latter resigned to support Atiku Abubakar in becoming the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) presidential nominee at the party convention.

Because Wike backed the Sokoto governor’s presidential campaign against Atiku in 2018, Tambuwal’s choice was viewed as a betrayal.

However, Wali claimed in an interview with Sunday Sun that Tambuwal only backed candidates he believed had a chance of winning the party’s nomination.

He said: “Well, I don’t think I will call that a betrayal. Yes, back in 2019, Wike was a champion that led the charge on behalf of Tambuwal. That was done, they were friends.

“But this time around, Tambuwal declared that he wanted to run for the president, and Wike now declared that he also wants to run for the president too.

“So, obviously, they would have to be opposed to each other unless they sit down and agree on how to resolve it, which never happened, and eventually bad blood was created by people from both sides because this is politics, and this is the survival of the fittest. At the end of the day, they fell out.”
