The Governor of Lagos State, Mr Babajide Sanwo-Olu has again appealed to motorists to be patient and obey traffic officials as they navigate the partial closed Third Mainland Bridge.
Governor Sanwo-Olu renewed the appeal during an on the spot assessment of movement on the partially closed Bridge.
Addressing newsmen at the Adekunle end of the Third Mainland Bridge, Governor Sanwo-Olu noted that only about six kilometres of the Bridge is closed and urged motorists to use alternative routes, including Herbert Macaulay Oyingbo, Yaba, and Eko bridge to link Lagos Island
“People coming from Oworonshoki still have access to the Bridge up to Adekunle, what we all need is a little patience, like ten to twenty minutes time before you get back to your lane again” He said.
While urging Lagosians to also make use of water transportation during the period, Governor Sanwo-Olu promised that the rail system currently under construction would soon be completed to provide a truly intermodal transportation system.
The Governor who drove through some of the alternative routes in the Surulere axis walked through Eric Moore where most of the manholes on the long stretch of the road have been stolen.
He also inspected the completed Allen Avenue junction where the erstwhile roundabout had been removed as a permanent solution to the perennial traffic congestion there.
While showing newsmen the works done on the junction, which now has multiple signalized lanes fitted with CCTV camera for live monitoring and updates, Governor Sanwo-Olu appealed to residents and motorists not to damage the walkways and flowers planted there and also promised that a contractor would be engaged to repaint the zebra crossings.
He said that of the Ikotun roundabout is almost completed but the activities of commercial bus drivers there have been hindering it effectiveness.
“The challenge we have is the behaviour of most of our residents there, we have solved the problem for them, but the sheer population in that corridor and the activities of commercial bus driver is what we need to manage, we need to go there and educate the commercial drivers to use the bus garage there and make them understand that it is only when they are off the road that everyone can have stress free journey time”
He drove through a similar junction improvements at Maryland, Ikeja and those on the Lekki axis.
