The state’s transportation fares would be cut by 50%, according to Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu.
The price cut will be applied to all state-run waterways and on-road public transit starting next week, according to Sanwo-Olu, who made the news on Wednesday while speaking to media at the Lagos House in the state’s Marina district.
Sanwo-Olu said that in order to ease the burden of the naira exchange on residents, the BRT buses, first, and last-mile buses have been instructed to charge 50% of the present fare.
The governor also announced that, starting tomorrow, citizens would start receiving palliative supplies from non-governmental organisations and religious leaders to help those who are now in need.

He continued by saying that in order to facilitate the delivery of gasoline throughout the state, the state government has put a halt to road development along Buba Maruwa, Ijegun-Egba. And urge the populace not to use the state’s economic hardship as an excuse to commit crimes.
“To further support Lagosians to weather these stormy days, I hereby announce the following measures: A 50% cut in fares on all our BRT buses, LAGRIDE taxi-scheme, First Mile and Last Mile buses, and Lagos Ferry Services (LAGFERRY),” the governor said.
“This will take effect from tomorrow for the next seven days. We will push out more Cowrie Cards to enable more Lagosians to get onboard our services.”
The governor stated that the state government will provide food to various communities while instructing that food banks be established in various areas of the state to care for the disadvantaged.
The military, the Department of State Services (DSS), the police, Civil Defense, and Neighbourhood Watch received praise from the governor for their dedication and commitment to the state.
Sanwo-Olu urged Lagosians to carry out their legal obligations without fear and cautioned “mischief makers who may use this as a chance to foment violence that this is not the way to go.”
