The party secretariat of Accord in Port Harcourt, the state’s capital, has been threatened with closure by the Rivers State Government due to an alleged conversion of the property’s usage from domestic to semi-public.
The State Ministry of Physical Planning and Urban Development sent the party in Rivers notice that it had to return to the property’s original purpose or face being shut off.

The government stated in the notice signed by Austin Ben-Chioma, the State Commissioner for Physical Planning and Urban Development, that the alleged alteration of the use or purpose of the property at No. 5 Ndoni Street in the GRA axis of Port Harcourt without authorization from the ministry is a violation of Executive Order 22 of 2022 and Article 43 of the Land Use Regulation 2010 of the Rivers State Official Gazette No. 1 Volume 48 of January 25, 2012.
The government also pointed out that the building’s arbitrary shift in use is annoying nearby neighbours and others using the public transportation system.
The party was thus given a seven-day deadline to return to the property’s original purpose or face having it shut off by the ministry.
The party has not yet responded to the notice in the interim.
When reached, a representative of the Accord Campaign Council’s media subcommittee in Rivers stated that the party has received the warning and will respond as soon as possible.
