Ex-Niger Delta militants have asked enterprises and businesses that fled the region when the insurgency ended to return, saying they are committed to ensuring the region’s stability for the foreseeable future.
Former militant warlords, who also asked on interventionist agencies to work with them to maintain peace and assure the region’s development, denounced the expansion of illegal refineries and their negative impact on people’s health.
The ex-militants said that peace was very important in bringing back investors to the region, speaking at a regional peace summit in Yenagoa, the capital of Bayelsa State, over the weekend to sensitize people on the need to advance the peace being enjoyed in the region.
Pastor Nature Dumale Kieghe, an ex-freedom warrior who attended the summit, said that as ex-agitators, they had resolved to work for a new and better Niger Delta, inspired by the vision of the Interim Administrator, Presidential Amnesty Programme Col. Milland Dixon Dikio (rtd).
