Innoson Group has revoked the N3 million scholarship it had awarded to Mmesoma Ejikeme following the end of an investigation into an accusation of results falsification against the troubled UTME candidate.

On May 8, 2023, Ejikeme, who asserted to have received a score of 362, which would have placed her among the top candidates for the year, received a scholarship from the company’s owner, who is from Nnewi, Anambra.

Last Monday, the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) vehemently denied Ejikeme’s assertion, asserting that her results had been falsified. The Anambra State Government responded by constituting an inquiry committee.

However, the Anglican Girls Secondary School student in Nnewi admitted using her phone to alter the bogus result to the committee of investigation set up by the Anambra State Government to inquire into the result fraud in its eight-page report.

The scholarship offer from Innoson Group to the 19-year-old was swiftly withdrawn on Saturday. Cornel Osigwe, the company’s head of corporate communications and affairs, posted a series of tweets to that effect.

The automaker acknowledged that the results were extremely disappointing and that Ejikeme’s behaviour directly conflicted with the principles the business upheld.

The company called the development disappointing and stated that it had “undoubtedly caused dismay among those who stood by Miss Joy, including her school principal and other well-meaning supporters”.

Innoson added that it would continue to respect the highest ethical standards, help worthy students, and invest in the future of the education industry. It read.

“In line with these principles and response to the confirmed findings, we have made the difficult decision to withdraw the scholarship awarded to Miss Joy Mmesoma Ejikeme.”

“This action is a testament to our unyielding commitment to honesty, integrity, and merit-based recognition.”

“However, it is crucial to maintain the integrity of our scholarship program and the values it represents,” the statement noted.

“We extend our appreciation to the public, JAMB, the Anambra State Governor’s committee, and all those who have shown understanding and support during this challenging situation.”
