The violent demonstration that erupted in the Lagos State communities of Ketu and Mile 12 has caused high traffic on the Ikorodu motorway as several vehicles allegedly were destroyed and protestors barricaded the motorway with bonfires.
The local businesses reportedly refused to take the old 1,000, 500, and 500 naira notes, which sparked the protest.

The market’s traders, who were mostly from the country’s north, let down the early-arriving dealers on Friday by refusing to take the old naira bills.

Nonetheless, the crisis was avoided from spiralling out of control and resulting in fatalities by the prompt intervention of military forces.
Since then, soldiers have assumed control of the Ikorodu Expressway’s Ketu and Mile 12 areas.
