In order to help with the investigation into the shootings at the Craneburg Construction Company site in Owo, the Ondo State Commissioner of Police, Oyeyemi Oyediran, has asked for peace and cooperation from well-meaning locals.
This was revealed by Oyediran in a statement issued by SP Funmilayo Odunlami, the Command’s public relations officer, on Thursday in Akure.
The shootings took place on Wednesday about 10:00 p.m, InsightnaijaTV reports.
He claimed that police personnel covering the area quickly responded to the event, which was under investigation.
According to the commissioner, police officers discovered a man named Rifum Lawrence, age 50, and a man named Abraham Opara, age 45, with gunshot wounds at the location.
“They were immediately taken to the Federal Medical Centre in Owo where they were admitted and are currently in stable condition.
“The Commissioner of Police equally led investigative operatives and officers of the Explosive Ordinance Department (EOD) – Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear, and high yield Explosives (CBRNE) also known as Anti Bomb Squad to the scene for an on-the-spot assessment.
“The Anti Bomb Squad confirmed that an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) was used to burst a tractor tyre at the scene of crime,” the commissioner said.
He advised the residents of the state to maintain their composure because an inquiry had started to solve the enigma surrounding the tragedy and the affected region had been roped off.
In a similar spirit, Oyediran cautioned people who were unaware of the actual circumstances not to incite panic within the state by spreading untrue rumours about the occurrence.
