Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s (LP) presidential candidate, has denied receiving $150 million for his campaign that was purportedly given by Nigerians living abroad.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) was requested to disqualify Obi over the claimed money since it is against the Electoral Act on campaign financing by a group operating under the banner of Tinubu-Shettima Connect.
He disputed the claim, claiming that no one had contributed anything to his presidential campaign.
No one has offered me anything, according to the former governor of Anambra, who left Nigeria on August 25 to rally support from Nigerians abroad. That is just conjecture. What they would provide me is not what I need. However, we need them to help Nigeria turn around, so what would they provide Nigeria?

“This is the energy, the capacity that we need to turn around Nigeria. Every country that was turned around, was done by the diaspora. Even in the Bible, Joseph who left later came back to feed his people.
“It is not campaign, it is consultation. I am consulting Nigerian diasporans to know why they should be involved in the Nigerian electoral process. And you can see from my conversation and everything that what I am doing is saying let’s get involved.

“They are the most important elements in rebuilding Nigeria. Diasporans are the investment Nigeria needs to turn things around. We can turn around Nigeria if they have faith in it and are willing to contribute their material, creative, and energetic resources.
The election in Nigeria in 2023 shouldn’t be decided by factors like race, religion, affiliation, or “my turn.” The emphasis must be on character, competence, capacity, and resolve to address Nigeria’s challenges.
