Iyorchia Ayu, Samuel Anyanwu, and Deputy National Chairman (North) Umar Damagum have been given a 48-hour deadline to quit or face legal action, which has exacerbated the crisis gripping the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) amid recent claims of corruption.

PDP replies Tinubu, says APC losing millions of members

The threat was made after the Forum of PDP Candidates and Aspirants voted to remove the three officers from office.

As a result of the candidates’ unanimity in calling for the resignation of the aforementioned officers, they have also filed a petition with the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC).

The candidates who assembled in Abuja for their brainstorming session also claimed that the party’s leadership had forced its way into positions of power during party congresses, primary elections, and the party’s national convention by switching the names of candidates with those of losers.

They stated that “underhanded acts of the Party leadership are primarily responsible for the courts nullifying the Governorship primaries in Zamfara State and all primaries held in Ogun State while noting that many more are still pending in Court”

Chris Ogbu, the Forum Coordinator and House of Assembly Candidate who presided over the meeting, also read the communiqué. Dauda Yusuf, the Forum’s Secretary and a former candidate for governor, as well as a few other members, stood to his sides.

He requested that Ayu, Anyanwu, and Damagum leave their positions immediately, be fired by the party within 48 hours, or face legal action that would start on Wednesday to remove them from their positions.

The candidates/aspirants claimed that Ayu’s alleged distribution of nomination fee funds rather than using them to conduct the party’s historic election in 2023 was extremely provocative and damaging to the party’s reputation.

The resolution stated that dismissing Ayu and his gang of party treasury looters “would go a long way in establishing that PDP is now a party that is intolerant of corruption.” Voters now perceive them as a “come and chop or share the money party.”
