Gboyega Oyetola, the governor of Osun State, has been declared the winner of the All Progressives Congress, APC, primary election held on Saturday.
Oyetola has been named the party’s candidate for the July 16 governorship election in Osun State.
Oyetola was joined in the race by two other candidates. Former Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives Lasun Yusuff and former Secretary to the State Government Moshood Adeoti were among them.
The Osun APC Primary Election Committee, led by Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrasaq of Kwara State, announced the results in the early hours of Sunday at the State’s APC secretariat in Osogbo, saying accredited voters totaled 247,207, while total votes cast totaled 235,550.
Oyetola defeated Rauf Aregbesola’s candidate, Adeoti, by a large margin of 222,169 votes to 12921 votes, while Lasun received 460 votes.
In a statement, the party’s chairman in Osun State, Prince Gboyega Famodun, thanked the Primary Election Committee for conducting credible polls, according to him.
