Ademola Adeleke, the incoming governor of Osun, has been told by legal expert Ebun-Olu Adegboruwa to perform well after taking office or risk being ousted later.
The former senator will be removed by popular vote, just like they did with Governor Gboyega Oyetola, the lawyer claimed, if he failed to deliver.
However, Adegboruwa pointed out that there were certain troubling election-related concerns that have implications for Nigeria.
The Osun election was not won on the basis of any programs, ideas, or ideologies, according to the Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN).
He criticized the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the All Progressives Congress (APC) for bringing in performers to sing and dance “as if entertainment is the engine of good governance.”
Regarding the conduct, Adegboruwa argued that if INEC’s independence was ensured, the selection of leaders would reflect the preferences of the electorate.
Adegboruwa said that the use of technology, particularly for voter registration, transmission of ballots, and collation of results, is essential to the success of the election process.
The SAN asserted that if votes matter, politicians will work harder to improve their performance and demanded that no room be allowed to riggers to subvert the democratic process.
“The reign of godfathers in the political space can and should be terminated and then Nigeria will witness some progress.
“No leader that has emerged through the ballot process will ever take the people for granted if there is a credible process of change”, he added.
If Adeleke performs poorly once in office, Adegboruwa emphasized, “the people of Osun will not find it difficult to reject him as they have done to the incumbent governor.”
According to him, the winner can only be praised if he develops programs that would ensure development.
“The period of dancing ended on Saturday, we want to see results”, the rights activist told the governor-elect.
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), observers, security organizations, and the media were all praised in the statement for their efforts.
