Adegboyega Oyetola, the governor of Osun State, has been charged with limiting entry to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) final gathering at Freedom Park and Osogbo City Stadium.

On the sidelines of the National Peace Committee peace deal signing by gubernatorial candidates and their political parties in Osogbo on Wednesday, Ademola Adeleke, the PDP candidate for governor in the Saturday, July 6, Osun gubernatorial election, made this accusation.

While making the accusation, Adeleke disclosed that he asked Governor Oyetola for permission to utilize either the Freedom Park or Osogbo City Stadium for the PDP major event.

Adeleke claimed that the caliber of attendees and party heavyweights anticipated in Osogbo made the usage of either venue for the event imperative.

According to him, “For our mega rally, we are expecting PDP presidential candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, and some Governors. I won’t tell you the names of the governors that are coming.

“PDP National Campaign Committee for Osun election is showing commitment to this campaign, but we have been denied access to the stadium and Freedom Park.”

In the meantime, the claim has been refuted by the Osun State Government.

The sites had already been authorized for use by other events, according to Funke Egbemode, the Osun Commissioner for Information and Civic Orientation, who spoke on behalf of the government, before Adeleke and the PDP requested to utilize one of them.

The PDP mega event is scheduled for Thursday, July 14, 2022, and numerous PDP governors, as well as Atiku Abubakar, the party’s gubernatorial candidate and former vice president, have already arrived in Osogbo in preparation.

On Tuesday, July 12, 2022, at the Osogbo City Stadium, the APC organized its own massive rally.

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the All Progressives Congress (APC) have been engaged in a protracted conflict in the lead-up to the Osun gubernatorial election, which will take place on Saturday, July 16, 2022.

Both parties have also accused one another of planning attacks against party members and of inciting violence in specific State regions.

In the 2018 gubernatorial election, Ademola Adeleke of the PDP and Governor Adegboyega Oyetola of the APC both ran for office. Oyetola won following a rerun poll in some local government districts.

The PDP and Adeleke, who saw Oyetola’s 2018 victory as a stolen mandate, have not been pleased with the outcome.
