The log-out week is a special week for every final year student because of the many things attached to it. It is a week every student love to see and experience. Many of the class 20 students had been looking forward to that week until the school management placed a ban on it.

For How Long Will Log-out Week be Banned? -By Gbadegesin Adeyanju – Opinion Nigeria | All Nigerian Newspapers

The management of the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology banned log-out week due to an incident that occurred during the last one. The unfateful incidence caused severe people to sustain injuries. Therefore, the ban was placed after Class 19’s log-out week in March 2021.

Of course, security is important, and of paramount importance to the school. But the school management should have opted for an alternative instead of banning a week every final year student looks forward to.

It is not surprising that despite the “ban” on the log-out week, every final student in each department still signed out. Banned or not, the event took place and yet again, a final year student was injured during the activities. This begs the question of how effective the ban is.

The school banned sign-out activities inside the school, and students found a way to do it outside, the result being the same one the school wanted to avoid. Rather than ban the event, why is the school not giving a lasting solution to the problem?

If the school doesn’t want them to sign out inside the school, students will do it outside the school, and the same incident will repeat itself, leading to even fatal outcomes.

Already, Class 20 Students have been denied a lot. They were unable to participate in the LSUG Election, dealt with strike, and an academic calendar disrupted by the strike. Banning their sign-out week is a final blow to these students who have been looking forward to actually participating in one of LAUTECH’s many activities.

Already, they had gathered and carried out a plea walk which yielded no result as the the school management remained adamant. They knew what was at stake and were ready to comply with the school’s rule but that didn’t get them anywhere. Hence, they went rogue.

The log-out week is a special week for every final year student because of the many things attached to it. It is a week every student love to see and experience. Many of the class 20 students had been looking forward to that week until the school management placed a ban on it.

Do you know the great joy attached to it when people sign on your white shirt? Let us not forget the back to school day that reminds you of your secondary school. The cultural day and jersey day are also usually so interesting that even non-graduands look forward to them.

The photos from that week captures a lot of memories and remind one of moments and people that will continue to remain dear.

For an institution that have not held a convocation in years, the log-out week was an activity that signalled a significant achievement, graduating. Expect for students who are inducted, others manage the sign-out week and have been doing so for years.

LAUTECH not having an SUG for years, leaves one to wonder how long the Sign-out week will be banned. Will it take years to get things back to normal like the SUG?

It is a great joy to bag a Bachelor Degree using 4-5 years in school. Some celebration should make the great feat. Therefore, rather than ban the sign-out activity, the school should replace it with a proper convocation or allow the students to sign out with certain measures in place.
