The Nigeria Labour Congress vowed on Monday to mobilise its members throughout Nigeria’s 774 local government areas in order to support Peter Obi, the presidential candidate for the Labour Party, and win the election.

Speaking about how the party can accomplish its goals and improve Nigeria, NLC National President Ayuba Wabba said this on Monday at the party’s National Retreat in Abuja: “One issue that we must take very seriously is actually conscientising our members and also Nigerians because Nigeria is so much divided along many primordial interests and many interests that are self-centred that we need to address.”

“No country in the world can prosper and work in unity if the country is so divided. So one of the responsibilities of Labour Party is to unite Nigerians along a common goal of development and prosperity,” he said.

Mr. Wabba has no doubts about the institutions in place, despite the fact that opponents of the Labour Party and its presidential candidate frequently discount Mr. Obi’s chances of winning the election.

“Let’s organise on every level. Let’s communicate on all levels. I can promise you that Australia recently did the same thing that Britain did in 1945, when the Labour Party truly gained all the structures.

The NLC President continued, “It’s not that we lack structures; people themselves are the structures. It only involves turning on the structures and using them. In military contexts, it is used similarly to a weapon. When they require your service, you provide it.

“As a result, it is now necessary for all 774 local governments to activate their political commission structures, including those of the TUC and NLC. Importantly, the combined membership of all of our affiliates, including TUC and NLC, is 12 million.

The NLC President defended the country’s young in his speech, stating that they are not lazy and that several governments have failed them.

Young people in the country are known to have given Mr. Obi a sizable following, and Mr. Wabba thinks that their support is essential to both his success and the future of the nation.

Because we are genuinely parents to the students and the youths, he remarked, “I am very delighted that the kids have associated themselves with the structures and the battles of the working class because they are actually realising that agonising alone without organising cannot take us anywhere.”
