Documents obtained from the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission confirm this (NERC).

According to the document, energy consumers in Nigeria paid N565.16 per month from January to September, which was 68.7% less than the N821.81 billion electrical bills they received.

Ikeja Electricity Distribution Company led the income collection list with N114.894 billion over the nine-month period, followed by Eko DisCo with N87.863 billion, according to the data.

Other distribution businesses’ performance was N85.653 billion for Abuja DisCo, N66.607 billion for Ibadan DisCo, N51.175 billion for Enugu DisCo, and N42.721 billion for Benin DisCo.

Port Harcourt DisCo is worth N35.097 billion, Kano DisCo is worth N34.033 billion, Kaduna DisCo is worth N22.02 billion, Jos DisCo is worth N18.221 billion, and Yola DisCo is at N6.879 billion.

Meanwhile, while inspecting several power transmission substation projects in Katsina State over the weekend, including the ongoing windmill project at Lambar Rimi in the state’s Charanchi Local Government Area, the Minister of Power, Mr Mua’azu Sambo, explained that the ministry had made a number of procurements under the Presidential Power Initiative to restore electricity and enhance power-related businesses across the country.

Mr Sule Abdulaziz, the Transmission Company of Nigeria’s (TCN) Acting Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, was with him.

The contract for the windmill project, which was won in June 2009, was to generate 10 megawatts of electricity for Katsina State and was set to be finished in 24 months.

However, the initial contractor arrived on site in 2010, and the project engineer was kidnapped during the peak of construction in 2012, causing a delay in finishing the project on time.

Thirty-one of the 37 wind turbines placed for the project’s start-up have been successful, with the other six vandalized and being repaired by the ministry ahead of the project’s commissioning.

Each turbine can generate 275 kilowatts of electricity.
