It appears Nigeria is now having shortage of bed-spaces for active cases of covid19. This is coming as the Country’s covid19 cases rose to 12,233. Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC} says 8,065 of them are active, while 3,826 have been discharged. Director of Hospital Services, Federal Ministry of Health, Adebimpe Adebiyi reveals that there are just 6,994 bed-spaces Nationwide. She admits Lagos with 5,729 cases and Kano with 997 cases are already battling these shortages.

Meanwhile, Director General, Nigeria Centre for Disease Control, Dr. Chikwe Ihekweazu says the Country is considering home treatment for covid-19 patients, due to the shortage of bed-spaces. Speaking at the National briefing on covid-19, Dr Ihekweazu says the Country is considering home care. He says the Government will provide health workers to attend to such home care.
Nigeria has continued to get local and foreign supports for its fight against covid19. The latest assistance is from the African Development Bank. The board of directors of the bank has approved 288.5-million-dollars loan to help the Country mitigate the impact of covid-19 on the economy. In a statement, the board says the loan will boost the Government’s plans to improve surveillance and response to covid-19 emergencies.
