Nigeria Presidential election is always conduct every four (4) years, which is a multi-party system of government. There are three Major parties with the highest majority of voters which are the APC (All Progressive Congress), PDP (People’s Democratic Party) and the LP (Labour Party). Few years after election, Nigerians still complain about bad government who were the one that voted them in as their representative. In this article, we will be taking about the mistakes people make when electing their representative. And also discuss some ways to avoid those mistakes.

Nigeria's Challenges and the 2023 Election – THISDAYLIVE

There are many Nigerians who don’t have any idea about the representative they are voting for. When you ask some random people, who are they voting for and their reason, you will be shock with the some response you hear from them. It’s not their fault, political parties have a leader and their vice from different ethnic groups. This brings about tribalism in such a way voters do only want to vote for the representative from their tribe political parties only. This form of voting system has made alot of disadvantage to the country in which the representative never have a good achievement for the country. campaign for them self to be elected after making some promises to the citizens. Nigerian should be aware of what the representative want to achieve for the country. Imagine a presidential representative saying EMI LOKAN ( It’s my turn), irrespect that the two previous president are from different ethnics and it time for another ethnics to rule. And the citizens are backing him up to rule just because he’s from their tribe. Nigerian are always blaming the representative for failing rather than electing the representative who is ready to serve the nation. Also political parties do campaign to the people by giving out money and others stuff, in order to gain the heart of the people. And many Nigerians are illiterate in which they only follow the political parties who they gain from during campaign. And there’s this form where Nigerians vote the political parties their relatives voted for. Some will say because their friends vote for APC, they are aslo voting the same political party.

To put a stop in this behavior, Nigerians needs to be aware of the representative who have a good mindset for the country. Also the literate in the country should preach about the good government who they should vote for. So many parents and people are out who only vote for one political party, not because they know what the representative can offer but because that’s what they are use too. If this set of people can be teach about the representative, there is a better hope that the good representative can come in and rule Nigeria. And Nigeria citizen should always have in mind that we are all one.

Voting a different representative from your ethnic extraction does not mean you are doing bad. Since you are sure and make your research about the records your representative have in his previous political post, that will makes you know who to vote for without regret of voting him. And Nigerians should know their vote counts and matter during election. If Nigerians can abide by this, It possible the economy of the country develop.
