The Women’s Rights and Health Project (WRAHP), a non governmental organization, says it will ensure justice for Favour Okechukwu, an eleven – year old girl, gang raped to death in September in Ejigbo area of Lagos State.
In a statement, the group which seeks to ensure women and girls in the society enjoy their fundamental rights says it is working with ActionAid Nigeria and the British Council Nigeria, to ensure that perpetrators of the heinous crime are brought to book.
The Executive Director of the organization, Mrs Bose Ironsi stated that the group had been monitoring the case of Favour Okechukwu, whose mother sent on errand, was accosted and gang raped to death in her neighborhood on September 30, this year.
Mrs Ironsi, said, in response to demands by protesters led by Women’s Rights and Health Project, the Commissioner of Police visited Okechukwu’s family and reassured them that justice would be served.
She expressed joy that two out of the four suspects who allegedly took part in the rape have been arrested and under interrogation.
She expressed the hope that the other two would be caught in no distant time.
