Eight charges have been brought against Abba Kyari, a suspended Deputy Commissioner of Police, and six others for alleged drug trafficking.
The accusations were presented before a Federal High Court in Abuja on Thursday by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency.
The Nigeria Police Force, through Muyiwa Adejobi, the Force Public Relations Officer, announced Kyari’s arrest shortly after NDLEA designated him sought on February 14.
According to the NDLEA, Kyari was handed over to the anti-narcotics agency by the Nigerian Police Force’s Force Intelligence Bureau.
The senior cop was also captured on camera giving over $61,400 in cash to corrupt the agent, according to the NDLEA.
According to the NDLEA, the suspended cop was summoned for questioning on February 10 but did not appear or answer.
The senior cop was previously suspended after being linked to Nigerian influencer Ramon Abbas, also known as Hushpuppi, who pleaded guilty to money laundering and other offences in the US.
