The National Youth Party has demanded for the conduct of a Rerun of Saturday’s Local Government Election in Ward E of Lekki, Lagos State.
The party claimed that its Councillorship candidate, Tarry Taylor stood a good chance but for the alleged
disenfranchisement of the party’s agents and supporters at seven out of the fifteen Polling Units due to
violence, in accessible polling units, multiple thumbprinting among other severe irregularities.
Speaking at a News Conference on Sunday in Victoria Island, the National Chairman, Mr Tomiwa Aladekomo, said the party was going to approach the Court with evidences, as it was not provided the Incident Form for it to officially report its grievances to the State Independent Electoral Commission, LASIEC.
Mr Aladekomo who mentioned that the Youth Party fielded four Councillorship candidates in the Local Government election, also expressed the readiness of the party to participate in all future elections, having embarked on vigorous membership and voter registration drive.
The National Publicity Secretary of the party, Mr Ayodele Adio who pointed out other alleged irregularities at some polling units at Ajao Estate and Ikorodu North, noted that the Youth Party leadership has been inspired that young credible people would soon begin to win elections into the top public offices in the Country.
On his part, the Coordinator of an Election Observation body, Committee for Protection of Peoples Mandate, Mr. Nelson Ekujumi, affirmed that it had reports of irregularities alleged by the Youth Party, while encouraging them to formally petition LASIEC and the Court in order to address the irregularities.
