The New Nigeria Peoples Party, led by Rabiu Kwankwaso, claims that while it is aware of the power of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the All Progressives Congress (APC), it is also putting institutions in place to pull off surprises.

This was revealed by the party’s national chairman, Prof. Rufai Alkali, a former political adviser to former president Goodluck Jonathan, in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Wednesday, August 24, 2022 in Lagos.

In the general elections of 2023, Alkali predicted that the NNPP, as an alternative platform, will cause shocks across the country.

He asserted that the leadership the NNPP will bring into Nigeria would be entirely apart from what the other political parties had and are presently presenting.

“We are out to reduce the drift and sharp edges of anger and bitterness in the country.

“NNPP is a party that is rooted in national movement that will usher in a greater Nigeria.

“We have now got our candidates at different levels and we are getting ready for the campaigning time soon for the elections.

“Of course, we are not oblivious of the power of what PDP and APC can do. Our party is on course, we are very strong. We are waxing stronger. We are concerned about the future of Nigeria and our democracy,” he said.

The chairman declared that the NNPP was prepared to mobilise the populace for the elections in 2023, claiming that Nigerians needed a true change.

Alkali observed that many nations, unlike Nigeria, who lacked abundant natural resources, had been able to harness what was available to create their civilisations.

He claimed that due to the vast amount of material and people resources present in the nation, Nigeria was widely believed to be one of the continent’s giants.

“Nigerians are desirous that Nigeria should be a better country, especially given the fact that we are the largest population of black people in the continent.

“There is also a growing consensus that after 22 years of democratic governance, there country ought to grow in leaps and bounds.

“Ordinarily, we are supposed to have gone farther than where we are by far. Institutions and structures of governance are not optimally functioning,” Alkali said.

He claims that the cumulative consequences of the policies that have been pushed on Nigeria over the past 40 years have put strain on the country’s security and economy.

He claimed that some of these measures have destroyed all mechanisms for creating and preserving work.

He claimed that in order to address the problems the country was suffering and to reinforce its unity, certain Northern elites formed the NNPP in order to create a bigger Nigeria.

Sen. Rabiu Kwankwaso, the NNPP’s presidential candidate, in particular, felt that trying to unite our people was the best course of action, he added. Who becomes president, senator, or minister at that moment is unimportant.

“The important thing is to get our folks together so we can have a conversation. We are aware that our goal is to safeguard both our nation and the democracy of Nigeria.

We chose the NNPP because we believed that having a national movement alone wouldn’t be enough; we needed to go above and beyond to have a political platform.
