The National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons’ Anambra State Commander, Ibadin Chukwu, claimed that social media has evolved into the fastest method of human trafficking.
She recently warned the nation’s youth to be aware of misleading advertorials that falsely claim to be giving a variety of employment prospects on social media.
Ibadin Chukwu made this statement on Saturday in Akwa during a walk to commemorate World Human Trafficking Day in 2022.
She urged Nigerians, in particular young boys and girls, to be caution online because human traffickers are now able to obtain victims there more quickly than any other method.
Chukwu also pleaded with the state’s governor, Chukwuma Soludo, to help the agency establish a functional office that is favorable to their ability to function well in the state.
According to her, if the facility is made available, the organization will be able to serve victims of human trafficking in the state with rehabilitation and integrated services.
She claims that the office will also allow the agency to bring its suspected human traffickers so they can be questioned in compliance with NAPTIP regulations.
She said, “Our duty is to arrest human traffickers, rescue the victims, rehabilitate and integrate them back to the society for a better living. As we speak, we are using rented apartment without security, our lives are in danger as well.
“We detained our victims under the custody of the Police, NSCDC, DSS, immigration and the state ministry of women/social welfare for safety. The agency in the state is appealing to the governor to assist to provide a conducive office to enable us render effective services to Ndi-Anambra.”
She thanked Echeng Echeng, the state commissioner for police, for always acting quickly in an emergency.
