Twelve senators from the All Progressives Congress (APC), the current government party, are expected to defect to the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) unless there are any last-minute adjustments (PDP).

The APC’s majority status in the upper legislative house will be under jeopardy as a result of the development.

Last Wednesday’s executive session saw the culmination of events when Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe (All Progressive Grand Alliance, APGA, Abia-South) presented a motion to discuss Buhari’s impeachment.

With 61 senators to the PDP’s 40, the APC now holds a majority in the senate. The New Nigeria Peoples Party, the Young Progressives Party, the Labor Party, and the All Progressives Grand Alliance, or APGA, each have one senator.

The motion was backed by Senator Adamu Bulkachuwa (APC-Bauchi North), who was upset about the escalating security situation caused by terrorist attacks around the nation, including recent ones in Abuja, the capital of Nigeria.

A legislative aide privy to details of the session disclosed; “There was no opposition during the executive session, according to what the senator told me. It was agreed the issue will be tabled for discussion during plenary under Point of Order (PoO).”

“They were all surprised when the Senate Minority Leader, Senator Phillip Aduda, (PDP-Abuja), raised the issue and it was shut down by the Lawan.”

“They are feeling someone in that closed-door session tipped off the president and his team, who immediately got in touch with Lawan to shoot it down,” he said.

This infuriated the lawmakers, who all staged a walkout, joined by some senators from the APC.

Below are the Names of the Senators set to join the PDP;
