To assist flood victims in the Ahoada West and Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni Local Government Areas of the state, Gov. Nyesom Wike of Rivers has authorised emergency relief measures totaling N1 billion.
This information is contained in a statement delivered on Wednesday, October 12, 2022 in Port Harcourt and made available to journalists by Mr. Kelvin, the Special Assistant to the Governor on Media.

Additionally, Wike established a task group to organise the delivery of aid supplies to the State’s affected communities.
According to him, the purpose of the fund is to help disadvantaged households deal with the terrible flood waters, especially in Ahoada in the two local government districts, which are the places most affected in the state.
The governor mentioned how the flood had submerged homes and farmlands and prompted locals to leave for safer areas.
He stated that the task force’s chairman will be Dr. George Nwaeke, the Permanent Secretary, Special Services Bureau, Office of the Secretary to the State Government, with Mrs. Inime Aguma serving as the task force’s secretary.
In addition to Hope Ikiriko, the chairman of Ahoada West LGA, Vincent Job, the chairman of Ogba/Egbema/Ndoni LGA, and Chukwuemeka Onowu, the director of administration for the Ministry of Special Duties, were listed by Wike as task force members.
The Governor said that he would meet with every member of the task committee on Thursday at Government House in Port Harcourt.
The governor announced that he had also selected 28, 000 Special Assistants for the state’s political units, and that the appointments were effective right away.
