Money bouquets, spraying, selling, squeezing, and defacing were all named as forms of naira abuse by the Central Bank of Nigeria on Friday February 10, 2023.
This information was provided by the central bank in a flyer uploaded on its Twitter account. The flyer highlighted several ways the naira may be abused and urged users to report such misuse. The CBN captioned the post, “It is your civic responsibility to defend the naira. Today, report naira abuse.

Additionally, it offered toll-free hotlines via which such acts may be reported to the apex bank.
Recall that the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission agents who detained actress and cosmetologist Oluwadarasimi Omoseyin last Wednesday had stated that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission will charge her with abusing the naira.
After a video of the 31-year-old splashing and trampling on freshly redesigned naira notes at a party went viral online, the woman was taken into custody.
This occurred when members of the EFCC’s Lagos zonal command began looking into the situation after determining that it violated Section 21 of the Central Bank of Nigeria Act, 2007, and that it constituted a crime.
Agents of the EFCC also confiscated a Range Rover and an iPhone that belonged to the actress.
“A person who tampers with a coin or note issued by the Bank is guilty of an offence and shall, upon conviction, be liable to imprisonment for a term not less than six months or to a fine not less than N50,000 or to both such fine and imprisonment,” according to Section 21 (1) of the CBN Act.
