The Minister of State for Transportation, Mrs Gbemisola Saraki has expressed displeasure over the inability of some Terminal Operators in Ports industry to keep to the terms of the Concession agreement, years after the privatisation contracts were signed.
The Minister stated this when the new Chief Executive Officer of the APM Terminal in Apapa port, Mr Klaus Laursen, paid her a courtesy call in Abuja.
She said she was aware of the terms of the concession agreement and had also kept abreast with the operations of some of the Terminal Operators, which she said was not quite satisfactory, in terms of competitive pricing and infrastructural deficits.
The Minister promised that Government would always do her best to ensure a condusive working environment for all Foreign investors but challenged those Operators to reciprocate the gesture, for mutual benefit of both parties.
She used the occasion to inform Mr Laursen that, as Nigeria renews her quest to be voted into Category C, of the International Maritime Organisation, his Organisation’s support would be highly appreciated towards helping the Country, achieve that ambition.
Responding, Mr Laursen promised that his Company would always collaborate with the Government to enhance faster and roburst business developnent, as evidenced by the recent berthing into the Country’s port, the world’s largest containers vessel.
He noted that such services, on a regular intervals, would engender rapid growth and development of the industry.
